Airbus officially opens its A220 final assembly line (FAL) manufacturing facility in Mobile, Alabama. The 270K square foot facility can produce both the A220-100 and the A220-300 variations. It houses five assembly stations. This is a major production milestone for Airbus as the plant’s first component assemblies is destined to become an A220 for JetBlue. Upon delivery in late 2020, JetBlue will be the second airline to receive US built A220s.
“The team is excited to start working in their new facility and to welcome a new customer,” said Paul Gaskell, president of A220 USA and Head of A220 Program in Mobile. “It’s a strong endorsement from JetBlue in this challenging time.”
“The expansion of our commercial aircraft production in Mobile – from the A320 Family to the A220 – further solidifies Airbus’ standing as a truly global aircraft manufacturer, and confirms that Airbus remains an important part of the American manufacturing landscape,” added Gaskell.
The Mobile, Alabama location is the second assembly site for the A220. It’s primary production facility is located in Mirabel, Canada.
