Qantas Airways and Virgin Australia Holdings Ltd were both awarded a slot each to operate flights at Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport by the Australia’s International Air Services Commission in a draft decision.
The new Haneda Airport location is closer to Tokyo than Narita’s Airport which is approximately 37 miles east of central Tokyo. Passengers will find it more convenient. Virgin Australia is planning to use its new slot for a daily service between Brisbane and Haneda starting in March 2020.
How this will impact travelers between the two locations will have to be seen once both slots are fully operational with ticket cost and availability being taken into consideration.
Brisbane Airport and Tourism Australia both backed Virgin Australia’s Haneda bid.
