On a whim our family took a road trip to Minnesota’s North Shore during Thanksgiving break. We landed in Castle Danger, a town off the shore of Lake Superior, about 3 hours North on Interstate 35 from Minneapolis.
As the bitter cold had not set in as, it was still mild enough to enjoy time outdoors. After settling in at the Grand Superior Lodge, we explored the area and found a perfect landing spot along the shore for meandering and skipping stones, which were smooth weather polished rocks great for building cairns.
Within a half hour drive of the lodge we visited Split Rock Lighthouse, a historic site. We also got in a visit to Gooseberry Falls State Park, where we saw incredible winter scenes of frozen falls. Dinner was at the lodge and breakfast was at Vanilla Bean Café in Two Harbors. This was a great outdoor experience for our family, secluded, quiet, and time to reconnect.
